The containment of pet dogs in specific areas has always been a problem to dog owners. Because they are natural wanderers, dogs are constantly found roaming around different places. Dog owners are constantly in search of a means to prevent their pets from going too far or getting lost without taking away their freedom.
This problem of dog owners is solved by the invention of radio fences. Radio fences are mechanical devices used in containing dogs in a particular domain.
Radio fences are divided into three components: the wire, the transmitter and the receiver. The wire is an instrument connected to the transmitter. It confines the only region permitted to be wandered by the dog. Wires may be buried deep underground or placed above the land. The communication between the components of radio fences is made possible by signals. Strong, clear and accurate radio frequency signals are conveyed by the transmitter. To avoid confusion among different signals, the signals of radio fences' receivers are coded. These are lightweight devices carefully situated in the dog collars. The dog collars may be adjusted to fit the neck of the dogs perfectly. They contain rechargeable lithium batteries and guarantee a clear signal reception.
A warning tone is emitted every time the dog is about to go out of bounds. If the dog decides to go on despite the warning, he will receive a slight punishment. The slight punishment is characterized by a static whose intensity may be adjusted by the owners to suit the needs of their dogs. Although it will not harm the dog, the punishment will prevent the dog from going any further. This feature of radio fences not only eliminates the dog owner's worries of loosing their pets, but also teaches the dog about the value of discipline. Once the dog gets used to the fact that he has to stay in a certain area, he will dismiss other attempts of going beyond their area of limitations.
Some radio fences contain lots of additional features and developments. Because troubles like accidentally cutting off the wire exists, newer kinds of radio fences are made wireless. This is a great innovation because it lessens the worry of damaging the wire every time the lawn is being mowed. Other radio fences are designed waterproof and water-resistant for an added protection. Newer types of radio fences also have more range as compared to the old ones. A bigger range is made possible by the addition of more dog fence wires and flags. There is also a newly-invented electronic device that is placed on the dog's collar. The said device is used as a record of information such as the name of the pet, the name of the owner, the address and contact number of the owner, the veterinary schedules of the pet, and the type of medications being taken by the pet.
Radio fences aid in teaching dogs their boundaries and prohibiting them from escape. Radio fences also help protect dogs from unforeseen circumstances once outside the yard. Dogs are now free to roam the yard without owners fearing for their safety.
