Pets are like children. They need attention, exercise, love, care, protection, shelter and food. Just like children, the health and nutrition of the pets are also important to their owners. In order to achieve the needed good health and proper nutrition, pets need to be fed regularly. The types of pet accessories needed for feeding pets are called pet feeders. Pet feeders are used to store the food of the pets. Traditional pet feeders are in the form of little bowls especially made for pets.

Newer pet feeders are now made automatic for an added convenience. These types of pet feeders include closed compartments used for the storage of huge amounts of dry food. The food is dispensed and made available for the pet through an opening in the bin. Some models of automatic pet feeders are also programmable.

A specific type of pet feeders, a dog feeder is best when elevated. A raised dog feeder also helps in the digestion of food by decreasing the amount of swallowed air while chewing. Other benefits of an elevated dog feeder are reduced risk of bloating the stomach, decreased probability of spilling the food, increased chance of improving the posture, and decreased occurrence of dirtying the pet's body.

Since there are pet feeders especially made for dogs, then there are also those especially made for cats. A cat feeder is recommended for an easier way of providing cats of the proper nourishment they need. An automatic cat feeder also helps in the prevention of cat dehydration since cats become thirsty easily. This gives cats an easier access of food and water without bothering their owners.

Drinking lots of water is not only beneficial to humans but to pets as well. Enough water concentration in the body helps in the prevention of pet diseases and aids in the reduction of too much heat. A pet fountain is a product which supplies water for the drinking benefit of the pets. It provides ready-to-drink running water sure to quench their thirst. The water constantly circulates in the system to retain its freshness.

Some types of fountains even have reservoirs that instantly release water whenever it is needed. Some variations of the fountain feature charcoal filters that take away unpleasant tastes and unwanted odors. The models of pet fountain without filters feature air pumps that oxygenate the water, one way of preventing bacterial growth in the fountain. Other variations even have an in-system cooling reservoir that maintains the coolness of the drinking water. The bases of the fountain are made wide and low to provide the pets with an easier access of drinking water.

Caring for pets entails so many duties, why not make some of the tasks easier? With pet feeders, the beloved animals are able to feed themselves, alleviating the owner of constantly preparing food and water.
